How the BBT Ovulation Calculator Works

The calculator uses the coverline method to detect ovulation from your daily temperature readings.

Coverline Calculation

The coverline is calculated from your pre-ovulatory temperatures (the first half of your temperature series): sort all temperatures ascending, take the 6 lowest, and set the coverline at the maximum of those 6 + 0.1°F.

Ovulation Detection

Ovulation is confirmed when 3 consecutive daily temperatures all exceed the coverline. The estimated ovulation day is the day immediately before this sustained 3-day rise.

Chart Interpretation

Look for a clear biphasic pattern — lower temperatures in the first half of the cycle (follicular phase) followed by consistently higher temperatures after ovulation (luteal phase). The shift should be at least 0.2°F above the coverline.
